Pioneer phase is also called the entrepreneurial phase.  Scientific phase title was coined by Taylor.  Some refer to next stage as the Human Relations phase.  There’s also a schema of start-up, growth, maturity (and decline).  This is the organizational “life-cycle”.

Companies often develop from an initial early pioneer phase in which the founder builds it up from nothing.  But at a certain stage the business becomes too big and complex for the pioneer to micromanage, and a formal governance structure is put in place and it enters a “scientific management” phase.  Eventually, in its mature phase, if the company develops that far, the organization may develop a decentralized structure whereby decision making becomes more nimble and effective and individuals become more empowered, not only raising productivity but also enlivening the morale (enthusiasm, vitality, spirit) across all workers.
